The CIM foundation is an innovation and technologic center specialized in advanced Technologies and production, part of the Politechnic University of Catalunya (UPC).
We had already worked with the CIM Foundation in the past, first as consulters and after that, giving formative courses, which is one of the main tasks of this institution. In this case, we made their new website using the content manager Drupal.
During the celebration of the Drupal Camp Spain 2010, we were able to talk about this new project in the section about ‘8 examples of use of Drupal’. In this presentation (link to slideshare where you can consult it) we tried to highlight the main philosophy of this development, which was using as fewer modules as possible, and the creation of as low quantity of content as possible. These facts allowed for a webpage much more flexible and versatile.
Used modules
The Basic modules used in the website of the CIM Foundation where CCK, Views – for the creation of listings- and i18n – for the implementation of multi-language-. We also implemented a custom-made module of our own creation for the presentation of the courses, so we did not overload Drupal’s main menu. Lastly, other modules we used where: : ImageCache, date, backup and migrate, Google Analytics, Wysiwyg, Insert, Menu trails, etc.
Types of content
The type of base content was the page, which holds a title, body, files and attached images. We also created the type of course which is a page with different text areas that represent the different characteristics a course can have (details, pedagogic method, content, etc.). The slideshow of images has the particularity that it can be published in any of the main sections of the page, so the user can choose where to show those pictures. Other type of content generated were news, activities and also a page with detailed listings with the current news and next activities to be held.
Graphic theme
The Graphics theme was developed from scratch (not basing it using any theme like zen or any other one) using the Graphics design handed to us b the client. In this area, we want to highlight the use of programmed animations with JQuery in the menus.
Result
The result is a flexible webpage that can grow with the pass of time and adapt to the different types of formations, courses and investigation projects that CIM Foundation may have.
